Reintroducing the Pollinator Initiative

The Pollinator Initiative is back in bloom! This summer, AFNHA is expanding our efforts to promote education about our local pollinators and the ways we can help their declining populations.

Pollinators – such as bees, butterflies, beetles, and hummingbirds– are responsible for one in every three bites of food we consume! They are crucial in supporting the plants and ecosystems in AFNHA. Unfortunately, populations are declining. The Pollinator Initiative establishes a thriving network of pollinator habitats while inspiring citizens to join us in conserving these essential creatures. Protecting them helps ensure the survival of native plants, wildlife, and local food systems across the region.

Join the Pollinator Initiative this summer at the Appalachian Forest Discovery Center in the historic Darden Mill for Discovery Time! These free, family-friendly events are educational, hands-on, and include free pollinator project kits! Our Discovery Time program runs at 11am every Saturday through the end of August. Check out what’s buzzing each week by following our Facebook, Instagram, and online events calendar.

Together, we can grow a healthier forest— one flower at a time.
