Now Open: Apertures of Appalachia: Appalachian Photography Exhibit

This December–January, the Darden Mill will host Apertures of Appalachia, a community photo exhibition celebrating the people, places, and stories of our region. We’re inviting local photographers—hobbyist to pro—to display their work in our gallery. The theme is wide open: animals, landscapes, people, trains—if it’s Appalachian, it belongs.

Exhibit Run: Dec 6, 2025 – Jan 25, 2026

Venue: Darden Mill - Appalachian Forest Discovery Center

Artwork Pickup: Jan 26–27, 12–4 PM.

Join us for our opening reception during AFNHA’s Holiday Gathering on Thursday, December 11th from 5 - 7 PM.

The gallery is on the first floor of the Darden Mill. Please tell us if you need assistance.

Discover the Appalachian Forest

The Discovery Center’s permanent exhibit allows visitors to investigate how the people of this region interacted with the forest and how it, in turn, influenced them. The exhibit explores natural landscapes, history, forestry, and culture in the AFNHA.
