Americorps Position Details
Most available Positions are for 11 & 1/2 months in length with full time hours, with each member committing to 1700 hours of service (1725 recommended). This averages to about 35 hours a week. Schedules can be adjusted, depending on the needs of the projects and your team, balanced with your own needs. Most positions will include some, pre-scheduled, evening and weekend activities. Late-start positions and less-than full time may also be available.
Positions start based on availability and end 11 & 1/2 months from start the date. Members are expected to continue to serve until the end of the agreed service term.
Stipend & Benefits
For the 2023-2024 program year, full-time 11 & 1/2 month members will receive a living allowance of $20,000 gross for the year, payable in 24 bi-monthly installments. Workers Comp will be provided, and we will help support health insurance as needed. A child care subsidy can be available for qualified candidates. Unemployment coverage is not included. Many members may qualify for SNAP benefits to help with food expenses. As an AmeriCorps member, you may qualify for WV Medicaid. Less than full-time positions will receive pro-rated stipend and education award.
You are responsible for your own living arrangements and cost, although many members arrange to room together with other members. No resettlement or moving allowance is included. A few sites offer low-cost housing options. Former AmeriCorps members may be able to help you find housing. Word of mouth is the best way to find housing in rural WV.
Education Award
You will receive a Segal AmeriCorps Education Award of $6,895 at the successful completion of your 1700 hour term of service. Uncompleted terms do not receive educational award. The award can be used for most college tuition, technical or vocational education, or repayment of qualified student loans. Existing qualified student loans can be deferred during your AmeriCorps service with loan interest paid for the deferment period. Members 55 or older may choose to transfer their award to a child or grandchild.
WV Public Schools Tuition Waiver Program
Eligible AmeriCorps members who successfully complete a term of AmeriCorps service will receive a tuition waiver for the same amount higher education at a WV public schools. Click HERE for more information.

Interviews
We will conduct a program interview , followed up by a site interview for sites who are considering you. Position offers may follow these interviews.
When to apply?
Apply NOW for remaining 2023-24 positions, with start dates October through January. Shorter terms may be available beyond that timeframe. We accept applications any time, however May through August is our prime recruitment season for early September start date. Positions are filled on a rolling basis, so early application will give most choice of positions. Late-start positions and less-than full time may also be available.
